Back in familiar territory was former Red Devil Michael Glover, who won Sunday’s senior long course aquathon.
Glover has been living in Mooloolaba and made a return to the Mudgee club as triathlon season hits its peak over summer.
The long course was split into a three-stage run-swim-run and Glover was challenged all the way by new Red Devil Matt Webster, who announced himself when finishing second at the Mudgee half marathon earlier this year.
The pair could not be split over the first three-kilometre run, coming into transition at 10 minutes and 39 seconds.
Webster fell behind by about one minute during the 350-metre swim and this remained the margin until race end - Glover finished in 28 minutes flat.
Finishing third and about five minutes behind Webster was Mudgee’s Neil Bungate who put in a good final run to overcome Tim McNally in fourth.
Finishing fifth overall, Louise Mowlem led from start to finish to take out the women’s long course event in a time of 38.07.
About four minutes behind Mowlem were Tania Potter and Giselle Denley who placed second and third respectively.
The boys’ junior short course was a great contest that saw Campbell Wall take out line honours in a time of 22.19, closely followed by Tim McDonald (25.03) and Lachlan Wall (27.33).
In the girls’ junior short course, lone competitor Sian Potter crossed first in a time of 28.47.
The senior short course events were taken out by Gareth Fuller and Kristy McNally respectively.
Earlier in the day, the Little Devils boys race saw Connor Whale finish first ahead of William McNally and Lance Speakman.
The girls race was taken out by Halle Potter, followed by Elena Dute and Jorja Bennetts.
The Big Devils boys race was hotly contested and Harry Ehlen finished on top of Beau Rohr and Oliver Lucas.
In the girls, Alesha Bennetts was first, Hartley Lucas second and Morgan Rowlands third.
There were several other Mudgee triathletes in action at events across NSW over the weekend, in particular at Nepean.
The mother and son pair of Tracy (ninth) and Nick Kastelein (seventh) finished with top 10 positions in their age categories as did Mudgee’s Shannon Chapman (third).
Brendan Sutton, Doc Campbell and Shane Keech also competed at Nepean.
