An unusually small gallery of spectators were entertained by a diverse 36-event program at the second round of racing for the 2014-15 speedway season.
Drivers from Mudgee, Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Bathurst, Blayney, Oberon, Orange, Canberra, Lithgow and Nowra competed in the latest round.
Sue Healey dominated the four cylinder Sedans to win one heat and take victory in the 10-lap feature in her Honda chased by Orange driver John Spicer who racked up one heat third place in his Laser.
The bad luck story went to Nigel O’Neill of Mudgee who, after claiming two heat victories, suffered an engine management problem before the feature race which sidelined his Honda.
Also putting in strong performances were Kevin Coleman and Slade Anlezark of Orange, driving Corolla’s, plus Craig Priestley in a Laser while Reece Robinson also of Orange overcame an early starter motor problem with his Corolla with much valued assistance from surgeon Kevin Spencer.
The series production class saw some tremendous dices with two different heat winners in Kevin Spencer of Mudgee who won two heats and the feature driving his sideways Torana.
Chris Warnock of Mudgee won the opening heat and was second in two others but he could only manage third in the feature pipped by Dave Rapley of Mudgee.
As in the past the street stock class was yet again the stand-out racing category with Shane Duggan of Portland returning in a brand new Commodore to do battle with the Blackley family of Andrew, Kevin and Jodie Blackley plus David Giffin of Sydney.
Duggan won the 10-lap feature from Andrew and Kevin Blackley while Giffin was forced out with engine problems mid race.
Mitchell Duggan, who has just stepped up from the Junior Class gave his father a few anxious moments when he spun his Commodore in front of him in turn four.
Tarah Swadling and Amber Colberson debuted to share a Mitsubishi Mirage along with Natasha Spicer who debuted last meeting all contested the junior class along with the experienced Shanyn Duggan.
Duggan of Portland dominated in her Honda with Spicer of Orange improving rapidly lap after lap in her Laser as did Tarah and Amber.
For the first time in many months the second drivers class was contested with Jake Colvert of Mudgee driving Chris Warnock’s Falcon to victory in the feature race from Tom Hawkins of Rylstone at the wheel of Kevin Spencer’s Torana and Scott Bradley of Blayney driving his father Bruce’s borrowed Falcon.
The program featured the stars in the tin top stock cars but also open wheeler classes including the quarter midgets, go karts and microsprints.
NSW champion Darren Todd drove like a man possessed to claim two heats and the feature of the quarter midgets.
The microsprint class was the first round of their club championship, Mitch Isaacs again dominated the racing to take the feature and all but one of the heats.
Brett Sainsbury took second place in the action charged feature from Jason Summers while Lachlan Isaacs and Michael Cassar spun out but Marcus Gibbins took it one step further and rolled in front of the grandstand.
The go karts/125cc class feature dominated by Jason Beattie with Dean Hickey second and newly crowned Australian champion Ayden Elliott third.
Dean Hickey was the stand-out in modified/standard go kart, winning the feature from Shane Rogers and Skip Barrance.
The 2014-15 speedway season continues on Saturday, November 29, commencing at 4pm.
