Last Sunday saw the hottest temperature ever recorded in October at the Mudgee Airport weather station, which capped off a blazing hot weekend.

According to weatherzone.com.au the record was broken three times in a row with each day (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) setting a new benchmark.
Friday (34°C) was 0.6°C above the old record, Saturday moved the mark to 34.9°C, before Sunday went the furthest at 35.2°C – a whopping 12.4°C above the average top temp for the month.
This was highest October temperature recorded at the Mudgee Airport weather station, which was has been used by the Bureau of Meteorology since the early 1990s.
However, before that they used the George Street weather station and the highest October temperature recorded there was on October 21 in 1988 when 38.2°C was the top.
El Nino-like conditions in the Pacific have created warmer than average temperatures and below average rainfall and it seems to be here to stay for the coming months.
The previous record at the Airport weather station was 33.4°C on the 14th in 2004.
The hottest day in October 2013 was close to the record on the 21st when 32.6°C was recorded.
On October 25, 2014, a new record national maximum temperature was set for the month when 36.39°C was recorded for the whole of Australia, eclipsing the old record of 36.31°C on October 31, 1988.
