The Mudgee to Sofala to Rylstone to Lue run will once again be collecting toys and donations for the St Vincent de Paul’s Christmas Appeal to help local families doing it tough during Christmas.
And this year local woman Jane Hanna will be doing a fundraising run around Mudgee prior to the departure for sponsorship per kilometre.
Founding member Carol Budd said the event has expanded in the last three decades and pointed to Jane’s fundraising run as one of the ways that the event has and continues to grow and evolve.
“We didn’t think it would be going all this time later, not in our wildest dreams,” she said.
“We used to just ride up the main street and collect toys and then take them to the Salvos [the event was originally for the Salvation Army].
“Then it became a bike show and then we added a poker run, which is when we started to donate cash as well.
“So it’s become a lot bigger, there were only a few motorcycles back in the old days and now we average 130 to 150.
“And this year we’ve got Jane volunteering to do the run to raise money, which is another branch of it going in another direction.”
The day begins at the Mudgee Railway Station with the car and bike Show n Shine, registration and other activities from 8.30am, and St Vinnie’s will be serving tea and slices before Santa leads the parade out of town and the Toy Run begins.
It will head to Portland for lunch, onto Sofala (via Kelso), and then to Rylstone and ends at the Lue Hotel where there will be live music from Nick Wall, Jess Holland, and a reunion of local band McGee.
