It was a very costly error of judgment.
In the latest Lithgow Court sitting, Magistrate Fiona Toose heard how patrolling police spotted the Gulgong teenager driving his Toyota Landcruiser near the Bridge Street-Main Street intersection around 11.30 on Friday, October 4.
Police told the court they initially stopped the vehicle to question the driver about a large dead grey kangaroo tied to the bullbar.
Wooley appeared to be affected by alcohol and a breath test returned a mid range reading of .129.
When offered the opportunity of a blood test he declined, saying, “Do you think I’m silly? I might go higher”.
Wooley admitted having drunk eight stubbies of full strength beer.
Provisional licence holders have to abide by a zero blood alcohol reading and Magistrate Toose took this into account when fining the 19-year-old tree lopper $1000 and putting him off the road for a year.
The reason for the dead kangaroo on the bulbar was not revealed in court.
