Kearney and his Newcastle-based family members went to air on Monday, November 10, but unfortunately they could not muster enough points to win the episode.
The team bowed out in the final round when asked to name a sport that does not involve standing.
Leading his team of merry men, Daniel first replied with “rifle shooting” which landed no points. After his family provided a couple of answers, Daniel then had a mental blank, delaying the situation before coming out with “sitting darts”.
“They filmed the episode in Melbourne and flew us all down and paid for accommodation.”
“Since the filming I’ve come up with a 1000 sports,” Kearney said.
“It was made clear to us they [Family Feud] were in the entertainment business and instead of just passing it would be better to come up with something, even if it was semi-serious.”
Daniel, a local NSW Ambulance Inspector, said he encouraged families to have a crack at the game show.
“It was a really good experience. I encourage anybody to give it a go,” he said.
“They filmed the episode in Melbourne and flew us all down and paid for accommodation.”
There was a day of auditions at Sydney in late August whereby prospective competitors went through a series of theatre sports and a mock version of the gameshow.
“We got to the studio about 10am on the morning of filming. We each had to take several outfits to be looked over by their producers. It was in case we played on for a few nights but that obviously didn’t happen,” Kearney said.
“Before we started the actual filming we played a dummy game. There were about three or four teams in for the filming.”
In their defence the Kearney family went down to a top performing team. The Toomey family had already played four nights and won more than $33,000 in prize money – a current record.
Daniel was the recipient of a $250 Prouds voucher which he spent on an eternity ring for his wife of 12 years.
You can still watch the Kearney family’s episode on the Family Feud website.
