The Sun Sound is a short catchy jingle played hourly on loud speakers and reminds young people over summer to protect themselves with hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, clothing and finding shade.
Almost 100 pools and beaches across NSW will implement the Sun Sound campaign this summer.
Cancer Council NSW has presented Mudgee Swimming Pool with a Sun Sound sign to recognise their commitment to improving sun safety in the Mudgee region.
Camilla Barlow from the Cancer Council NSW Western Region office presented the Mudgee Swimming Pool with the sign this week and has praised them for supporting the campaign.
“Two in three Australians will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and sun exposure during youth is a major contributor as research shows young people often forget to protect their skin from the sun,” she said.
“Mudgee Swimming Pool has taken a great step by encouraging young people to be sun smart and we look forward to seeing more pools across the region come on board.”
The Sun Sound was launched in summer 2009 and is continuing to expand across Australia, gaining national and international media coverage and awards.
