Former Mudgee resident Marnie Flanagan did and has turned her search for good natural food into a brand of organic, natural products that everyday Australians will soon be able to purchase at Woolworths.
“Staring Naturally Wild was a combination of growing up near Mudgee and being able to eat organic food everyday and wanting to bring that experience to people in the city,” Ms Flanagan said.
“Naturally Wild is all about trying to get people to eat healthier and step outside the box a little when it comes to dinner,” she said.
Ms Flanagan said the flavour difference between a game animal raised in the bush with no human contact and an animal raised around humans was very different because of what the animal eats.
“Naturally Wild is really about providing Australia with meat that is better than organic,” she said. “All of the meat used by Naturally Wild was taken from animals reared nowhere near pesticides and who have never been domesticated.”
The range includes buffalo mince, crocodile tail steak and sausages, and wild boar meat and sausages. Ms Flanagan said the Naturally Wild brand promised no hormones, no feedlots, and minimal human handling on all meats sold under the brand name.
“I have hunters across New South Wales and Australia who are very good at what they do. We’ve been working closely with outback hunters and farmers to bring Australians hand-cut meats not previously available in your everyday supermarket,” Ms Flanagan said.
The range of animal meat available depends on what Ms Flanagan can easily get her hands on.
“It’s all about supply really. When I first started up the idea of Naturally Wild, I made sure to do my research into what game animals were readily available in Australia, that had good tasting meat, and that you were allowed to hunt,” she said.
As part of the Naturally Wild launch, Ms Flanagan will launch the Crocodile Steak Cooking Timer App for Apple and Android out of “sheer frustration”.
“I have been to so many barbecues where people have overcooked their crocodile because they don’t know proper cooking times or just aren’t paying attention. The difference between a good crocodile steak and a bad one can be less then 60 seconds so hopefully, people will take the time to download the app before they throw the steaks on the barbecue to ensure they don’t end up burning the meat,” Ms Flanagan said.
