For the next 12 months Peabody Energy’s Wilpinjong mine will cover the cost of meat trays raffled by Lifeskills each Thursday at the Lawson Park Hotel.
Proceeds of the raffle will go directly to Lifeskills new Oporto Road facility, Lifeskills business and community liaison, Bob Lejeune said.
“This means whatever is sold goes into the development,” Mr Lejeune said.
In 2013, the disability support organisation received funding to purchase the old Harvey Norman building that requires specialised modifications.
Wilpinjong general manager Blair Jackson and staff were on hand to launch the initiative at the Lawson Park Hotel last week.
“Buying and refurbishing of the new building was essential for the continuation of Lifeskills in Mudgee,” Mr Jackson said.
Mr Jackson leads a Wilpinjong committee dedicated to exploring the ways Peabody Energy can further help Lifeskills, in particular with their move from the old Perry Street premises to the new facility.
“I have been most impressed with the ability of the Lifeskills management team and the generosity of the Mudgee community to complete this mammoth task. I look forward to working with the Lifeskills team to help them complete the transition from Perry Street to Oporto Road.”
The new facility will allow Lifeskills to increase their respite beds from one to four, including two specifically for high needs clients.
“There is a chronic shortage of short term respite in Mudgee,” Mr Lejeune said.
The new facility will include all Lifeskills current medium to high care support, plus training rooms, a multi-purpose room, multi-sensory room and garden.
