I have watched with interest, as have many locals, the price of petrol in Mudgee since the recent decline in the value of oil.

As many local motorists would agree, the difference in price between Mudgee and the Blue Mountains is hard to fathom. The excuse that the cost of transport is the main contributing factor regarding the gap is not a valid one.
It has been pleasing to see a price reduction by the independent petrol retailers in the last couple of weeks and lo and behold, Woolworths and Coles have finally decided that the competition is starting to hurt.
Even with the so-called four-cent discount - which probably means that you are paying extra for groceries anyhow - the independents still win out and are under-cutting the big guys. Isn’t it amazing what a little competition does to the big companies?
I, for one, will be supporting the little guys as Woolworths and Coles have had it their own way for too long. I hope other Mudgee motorists agree and will follow suit.
