KANDOS STREET MACHINE:
Thousands of car lovers chose to create some heat rather than escape it on the weekend, when the annual Kandos Street Machine and Hot Rod Show rolled into the Simpkins Park complex.
The Burnout Eliminations were again the most popular part of the event, but there was plenty else to check out when you wanted to give yourself a break from the smell of burning rubber.
There was Show and Shine, Sound Off, Go-to-whoa, Dyno competition, and grass events, along with a variety of trade and food stalls and children’s’ activities.
President of the Rylstone Kandos Street Machine Club, Jack Pennell, said by taking a walk around the grounds the 2015 show looked to be up there with the best they’ve held.
“This way they don’t have to run raffles or any of the other things they do throughout the year to raise money.”
“I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the crowd, because even with the hot weather they’ve been really good,” he said.
“It’s been a really good turnout and, just looking at the size of the crowd, I’d say that this year would have to be equal to or better than our best.
“Even weather-wise it’s been fantastic, we must be doing something right for the higher powers to be looking after us.
“The good part is that it’s a family orientated event, some of them that I’ve been talking to I remember when the kids were two or three years old 15 years ago, and now their 18 and still coming back.”
Mr Pennell added the event is for the Kandos-Rylstone community and is an opportunity for local groups to run a stall, raise some funds, and get some exposure.
“It gives all of our local groups – like the netball club, the tennis club, the scouts, and the schools – a chance to earn some money as well,” he said.
