The State Government has promised to upgrade the Mudgee District Hospital, to the value of $60 million, that is of course if the Coalition is returned to office in the March 28 election.

The announcement was made at the hospital last Friday by Deputy Premier and state Nationals leader Troy Grant, who will be Mudgee’s state member if he is re-elected with changes to the Dubbo electorate boundaries.
“The Mudgee Hospital, if we’re re-elected in in 36 days time, will receive a $60 million redevelopment,” he said.
“Now we’re not sure how that $60million will be spent in relation to how it’s going to look like, but this is the opportunity to give Mudgee the first class, world class health facility that it deserves.
“We have some of the best health practitioners and staff right here at Mudgee Hospital doing a great job delivering health services in a building that was built in 1949.”

Mr Grant added that while the funding has been committed, how it will be used is to be decided after the local needs are further investigated.
“We have a wonderful opportunity, in the land that we have available to us, to let the health professionals here and the community decide what you want,” he said.
“The health department, health infrastructure will work with you to plan and design the new Mudgee Hospital, whether that is changing some of the current buildings or a knock-down and a new building to rise from the ground, that will be up to you.
“This $60million commitment will be delivered in our first term of government but we’re not sure where this wonderful project will end, that will be determined by the clinical services plan and what you guys come up with in the design.”
Member for Orange Andrew Gee was also on hand when the announcement was made, which became something of a swansong for his time as the representative of Mudgee.
“Over the last four years we’ve been pushing really hard to get this hospital upgraded and Mudgee has been waiting patiently while developments in other parts of the central west occur,” he said.
“But now Mudgee’s time has come.
“The boundaries change at the next election as the Orange Electorate moves westward, so this is bitter sweet because it is sad to be losing this part of the electorate I’m leaving knowing that all of the big ticket items are complete or under way.”
