The concept was intended to be “something different” for the town after café owner James O’Neill had seen the use of containers used to success in other areas.

He said that while it’s still a work in progress and there is more additions still to come, so far it’s gone over well and the transformation from idea to a physical building worked. 

“It’s been very well received so far, the support has been fantastic,” he said.

“The transition from brain to reality works quite well.

“It’s got rural views – who’d have thought that out there in suburbia – and it’s nice and quiet out there, plus it’s the ideal place to take kids because we’ve got the grassed area and it’s fenced in so you don’t have to worry about them.”

The café still has a pizza oven to be installed but is already offering coffee and meals, takeaway as well.

The building was designed by architect Cameron Anderson and constructed by builder Ryan McGregor, the sculpture on the northern end was made by artist Nigel White.

The containers came from a company called Tiger Containers who have been around for about 30 years but have only recently diversified and gone into construction.
