The course brought together 35 SES personnel, made up of 26 participants, six trainers, and several people helping out.
The training was for the NSW SES Macquarie Region and brought together members from places including Lightning Ridge, Glengarry, Narromine, Dubbo, Wellington, Dunedoo, and Collarenebri, along with local volunteers.
It ran for the whole weekend, with another weekend to come on April 11 and 12.
Local unit controller Jeff Ballard said this was the region’s annual storm and water damage operations course and one of the biggest training events they’ve hosted locally.
“They train on the roof, learn how to make a sand bag wall, and learn how to use pumps and generators. Basically, they’re learning how to be storm operators to tarp roofs and know what to do when they’re called out,” he said.
“We’re looking at hosting a lot more [training courses] in the future, this will be the first one, and there’ll definitely be a lot more to come.”
