Sarah Maree Williams of Winbourne Street, Mudgee, was charged with ‘Hirer not pay authorised fare on termination of hiring’ on Sunday, September 14, 2014.
At about 4.30pm Williams and the co-accused were picked up by a taxi at the Mudgee Valley Tourist Park and taken to the rank in Mortimer Street.
When they arrived the pair tried to get out of paying the $12 fare claiming they had to get the money from a friend and walked off.
The driver went back to where he picked them up and found people who identified them.
Williams was charged with ‘Responsible person/custodian not disclose driver identity’ after an incident on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Police stopped a car in Church Street, Mudgee, in order to conduct a random breath test but as they walked up to the driver’s door it sped off.
The next morning police saw the car in Market Street being driven by Williams – who it was registered to – and pulled it over.
She said she was selling the car and that the driver was taking it for a test drive and that she didn’t know his name.
She handed over a bankcard that she claimed he’d left in the card but the actual owner – a man from Penrith - said his card had gone missing and he’s never been to Mudgee.
Williams was charged with ‘Exceed speed by less than 10km/h (school zone)’, ‘Not give way to vehicle at intersection’, and ‘Class A vehicle display altered number plates’, when police spotted her driving in Rylstone.
They saw her drive into Mudgee Street, through the intersection with Dabee Street, narrowly avoiding another vehicle which had the right of way.
Then as she drove past Rylstone Public School – at about 3.18pm – police noticed she was driving faster than the 40km/h limit applicable at the time.
When they stopped her they also noticed she’d used black tape to attempt to change the appearance of the digits on the number plates.
