The biggest decreases were non-domestic violence related assault (down eight per cent), indecent assault (down 33 per cent), robbery without a weapon (down 40 per cent), break and enter a non-dwelling (down 44 per cent), motor vehicle theft (down seven per cent), fraud (down 31 per cent) and property damage (down three per cent).
Increases were recorded in domestic violence related assaults (up 37 per cent), home break and enters (up 37 per cent), stealing from a vehicle (up 53 per cent) and stealing from a house (up 29 per cent).
NSW deputy premier and Dubbo MP Troy Grant said the electorate was faring well in the fight against crime.
“There were no changes in the vast majority of offences committed in our local towns and cities over the last two years to December 2014,” Mr Grant said.
“BOCSAR reports some of the most serious offences – like robbery, sexual assault and car theft – have remained stable, while some are also falling.
“In the Far West and Orana statistical area, we have seen a 10.7 per cent reduction in the number of non-domestic violence related, or public, assaults. This reduction is great news and I thank the community for behaving themselves and looking after one another.”
While break and enter incidents to non-dwellings were down in Mudgee, other parts of the west saw a rise.
“I’m concerned at the 22.5 per cent rise in these incidents across the Far West and Orana statistical area and I will be working with Local Area Commands, councils and local business owners to discuss ways to work through this,” Mr Grant said.
“Community members can assist police in the fight against crime by reporting incidents when they occur and remaining vigilant.
“I thank our local police officers for their hard work – these overwhelmingly positive statistics are testament to their hard work and success."
