Mudgee RSL Sub-Branch President Graham Pickering said that this being a landmark year they’ve included some extra additions to the 2015 service coming back to the theme of 100.
“We’ve done something special for this year,” he said.
“There’s 97 names on the Cenotaph of people from Mudgee who died in the first World War, we’re making allowances for people who died whose names aren’t on there and working on a figure of 100 for the centenary.
“We’ve had 100 white crosses made which will be put around the Cenotaph prior to the dawn service.
“And leading the march will be 100 local school children – 25 from each of the four schools in Mudgee - each carrying a red poppy, one for each of the names, which they will place on the Cenotaph during the service after the wreath laying.
“Also this year, instead of just reciting The Ode the Cudgegong Choir will be singing it.
“Normally we would conduct the whole service from the rotunda, but this year the whole service will be conducted from the Cenotaph.”
The Dawn Service begins at 6am but time will be allowed prior to that time in order to set up the white crosses.
The march will form at Club Mudgee at around 10.15am to march off at 10.30am, around to Robertson Park.
The service will still include a number of regulars such as the normal visit from the 816 Squadron Royal Australian Navy.
Commemoration Medals are still available for purchase for $20 at Club Mudgee.
