Drama, comedy, tragedy and even a ghost story were played out on the stage of the Prince of Wales Opera House in Gulgong on Saturday night, as 10 finalists competed for The Land Leonard Teale Performance Poetry Prize.

The award is part of the Henry Lawson Society’s annual Literary Awards, held in conjunction with the Henry Lawson Heritage Festival. Maggie Murphy of Heathcote, Victoria, took home the Henry Lawson statuette after her performance of Edward Harrington’s poem, The Dead Come Home.
The runner up was Jenny Markwell, who presented Tittle Tattle by C.J. Dennis.
The audience choice award went to Ken Potter of Wollongong, who recited Henry Lawson’s The Ghost at the Second Bridge.
