BINALONG Brahmans ended Peak Hill Roosters’ unbeaten run in the Woodbridge Cup match of the day on Saturday, 46-18, after they led 30-12 at the break. The win means the Brahmans join the Roosters on top in a race for the minor premiership.
In the second big game, also on Saturday, Trundle Boomers leap-frogged Canowindra Tigers into third place, relegating Canowindra to fourth in a close one, 13-12 at Trundle.
In Sunday’s action, Grenfell Goannas took outright fifth place over Eugowra Golden Eagles in another hard fought game, 30-26, leaving Eugowra in sixth spot.
The bottom of the table clash saw Gooloogong Cowboys big winners, 70-12 over Condobolin Rams.
Cargo Blue Heelers recorded another big win over Burrangong Bears 66-6, scoring some titillating tries to keep their slim finals hopes alive.
The Blue Heelers attacked right from the kick-off, scoring six first half tries to Luke Wilson, Dylan Dean, Matt Taylor (2), Brett Morgan and Duncan Young, who kicked five conversions to see the Blue Heelers race to a 34-0 half-time lead.
The Bears were trying hard but had no answer to Cargo’s attack and solid defence.
Cargo continued to attack after the break, racing in three tries, two to Duncan Young, one to Dan Madden, pushing the score out to 48-0. Young kicked one conversion at 50-minute mark.
The Bears, not giving up, were finally rewarded with a good try to centre Ben Logue, which Cory Freeman converted to close the margin to 48-6 with 15 minutes to go.
Cargo then raced in three more tries to Brett Morgan, his second, Tory Madded and Duncan Young, his fourth for the match. Jake Kelly kicked all three conversions for the Heelers to win 66-6 in a 12-tries-to-one win over a gutsy Bears side, who never gave up all game.
The best Blue Heeler and man of the match was four-try hero Duncan Young, who also kicked five from six conversions for a personal tally of 28 points. He was well supported by the rest of the forwards who all played well. A mention goes to Matty Taylor for his big runs and offloads, also scoring two tries, as did captain-coach Brett Morgan.
The Bears, although on the bottom of the table, put in a whole-hearted effort from go to whoa, and with four rounds to go, hopefully they can muster a win for the year.
Youth league saw Peak Hill hold down top spot, defeating second-placed Binalong Brahmans in a great game 22-20, and Eugowra defeated Grenfell 22 - 12. Canowindra had the bye.
