“This year’s theme is all about discovering an incredible journey to an exciting career,” Mudgee College student engagement officer Angela Trevor-Jones said.
“National Skills Week at TAFE Western is about showcasing the diversity of vocational educational courses that can be undertaken and the range of pathways that can lead to a satisfying career.”
Ms Trevor-Jones said the college will launch special Mudgee Rotary Sunrise Club and TAFE Western Sandy Smith Scholarships this Thursday, August 27.
“These scholarships will be awarded over the next three years to students at TAFE Western’s Mudgee College in honour of Sandy Smith, a former foundation skills teacher and Rotary member who passed away in 2014,” Ms Trevor-Jones said.
“These scholarships will allow students to undertake a foundation skills course which will support them in their vocational study.”
Rotary raised funds for the scholarships through its monthly film nights, organised by Rotary with the assistance of Mid-Western Regional Council and supported by the local community.
The scholarship presentation will be at 10.30am at the Ulan Road campus, followed by morning tea provided by the TVET Hospitality students.
“The TVET students attend TAFE on Thursday mornings to undertake a Certificate II in Hospitality, allowing them to gain a qualification whilst still at school,” Ms Trevor-Jones said.
“The students will prepare and serve morning tea. It’s a great opportunity for the students to put into practice the skills they are learning.
“If people are thinking of a change of career or maybe just starting on a career pathway, this event, which coincides with National Skills Week, is the perfect opportunity to come and speak with our staff at the Mudgee College.”
