‘White gums near Mt Sonder – Northern Territory’ by Noel Raggett will soon be displayed at the Mudgee Library on a permanent basis after it was donated to council by local collector Gora Singh Mann.
The painting has been on display at the Mudgee Library for the past several months as part of a collection of works from central Indigenous artists donated to the library by Mr Mann for the exhibition.
Mid-Western Regional Council general manager Brad Cam said council was honoured by Mr Mann’s generosity.
“I want to acknowledge another generous donation by Mr Mann,” he said.
“This is the third exhibition Gora has donated to council after three exhibition’s at the library. We’re very pleased to be able to thank him for donating another wonderful painting to the people of the Mid-Western community,” he said.
Mr Mann said he decided to donate the paintings to council after an exhibition as a way of being involved with the local community.
“It’s a way for me to share my areas of interest and donating a painting is a way of continuing the community enjoyment,” he said.
This is the third painting Mr Mann has donated to Council after holding an exhibition at the Mudgee Library.
Following an exhibition on Aboriginal dot paintings last year, Mr Mann donated an Eddy Harris painting which now hangs in council’s Mudgee office foyer. A David Hill on display in the Ann Willcock Room at the library was the second donated painting.
‘White gums near Mt Sonder – Northern Territory’ was one of two paintings Mr Mann considered donating to council.
It was left up to a vote by library visitors as to which painting they would like to see on a permanent basis.
Works by The Hermmansburg School of Aboriginal Artists will be on display at the Mudgee Library until September when a collection of textile works from Mudgee Arts will grace the library walls.
