President of Mudgee Wine Grape Growers, Ted Cox, said there was a huge number of activities and events on during September that were expected to draw in quite a crowd. 

“We’re certainly doing a lot of different things this year,” Mr Cox said. 

Things have certainly changed since Mr Cox first began involved with wine in Mudgee. From small events centred at each winery, the Wine and Food Festival has grown to incorporate Go Tasting and Go Grazing events, pairings with local foodies, and a street festival that draws  thousands of customers. 

“It’s great to see producers getting involved with a lot of the events because it means our reputation is growing and more people are likely to come along on the weekend,” Mr Cox said. 

With restaurants, cafes, and caterers now jumping on board the festival train, the Mudgee Wine and Food Festival is appealing to a larger audience than it has in the past. 

Mr Cox said the festival was now an event the whole community got involved in, whereas in the past the majority of those attending were wine lovers and people in the industry.

“Now everyone gets involved, from children and newcomers right through to people who have been coming since the festival started,” he said. 

“I never thought it would get as big as it has and from the sounds of things, the festival will continue to grow in the future.”

Mr Cox said it was due to the number of wineries, winemakers, and winery owners in the region that the festival had grown as it has. 

“It’s become such a popular event because of the hard work our wineries have put into marketing in the local community and in the wider region,” he said. 

Cara George from Mudgee Region Tourism said the Mudgee Wine and Food Festival was the perfect time for travellers to reset their senses and taste the regions country charm and sophisticated food and wine.

During the month long celebration it is certainly a time for our region to shine with loads of events, enticing many visitors to our towns,” Ms George said.

“The festival is one which generates high anticipation during the year and showcases how the Mudgee region offers the best of both worlds, with a central township boasting boutique shopping and exquisite dining options, surrounded by picturesque country landscapes. 

“We at Mudgee Region Tourism are eager to welcome the many excited visitors heading our way.”
