Ms Pilley suffers from spina bifida and recently had surgery to remove her leg after years of problems and pain.
Ms Pilley has been in pain all her life, and said while loosing her leg wasn’t the most ideal of circumstances, there was good to come from it too.
“It’s upsetting really, having to make the decision to cut off my leg, but I know that it could have been a lot worse and I’m looking to the positives,” she said.
“I’m pain free for the first time in my life and know I’ll be able to do all the little things that a lot of people take for granted.”
Fundraiser organiser Dimity Bjork said the town had gotten behind the Windeyer Pub bar manager and had organised a huge day of fun and excitement at the Windeyer Oval on Saturday, October 3.
“I can’t believe it’s happening this weekend,” Ms Bjork said. “It feels like the past seven weeks have gone by in the space of one.”
There will be something for everyone at the Big Day Out in Windeyer celebration.
“Everyone has been so supportive of the day and of Kelly that we’ve got events stretching from 10am in the morning to late at night just to fit them all in,” Ms Bjork said.
For the past several weeks, Ms Bjork and her team of supportive locals have been raising money through the sale of raffle tickets. The raffle will be drawn on the day with one lucky person going home with a helicopter pub crawl/winery tour thanks to Commercial Helicopters.
“A bunch of local businesses have just gotten behind the cause and donated something to the cause,” Ms Bjork said.
There will also be an auction of donated items, with one of the main prizes a motorised scooter/motorbike with 12 months registration. A Noosa holiday and various dinner vouchers and bottles of wine will also be up for grabs.
Ms Bjork said local carver John Price had donated several of his popular wood sculptures for the auction and would also be giving carving demonstrations on the day.
Local auctioneer Hugh Bateman will hold an Antiques Roadshow style event during the afternoon and visitors are invited to bring along something old and have it valued in front of the crowd.
There will also be sheep counting for children and adults, yard dog trials will all sheep dogs welcome to take part, and a pet show for the children with prizes of Friendliest Dog and Waggiest Tail.
“We’ll also have free face painting and a jumping castle for the kids to enjoy while the parents have a look around,” Ms Bjork said.
One of the main events will be a treasure hunt using Mine Lab detection equipment thanks to Central West Prospecting.
“Everyone will be able to pay a small fee to take out the metal detectors and who ever finds a token can trade it in for a prize,” Ms Bjork said.
The fundraiser aims to raise money to help Ms Pilley pay for her ongoing medical bills.
The Big Day Out in Windeyer will take place at the Windeyer Pub and Windeyer Oval on Saturday, October 3.
“There’ll also be live music from three different bands that will continue well into the night,” Ms Bjork said.
