Local polo fans were treated to a country romp on Sunday when High Cube Café Country beat Butcher Shop Café City 6-2 in the inaugural Property Shop City v Country tournament at Parklands Resort.

Mudgee Polo Club president Hugh Bateman said that it was a successful day with some quality polo played to keep the crowd entertained.
“It was a good, fast game and taken out by Country 6-2,” he said.
“Although it was quite warm the players were still up to it and the crowd was very enthusiastic.
“We saw quite a large contingent of visitors from Sydney – and also from western NSW – in attendance as well as a large number of locals.
“It was quite an exciting event and it’s definitely something we would hope to do again next year.”
Country were the fastest out of the blocks with a goal to Angus Gunn (of Bylong Valley) to open the scoring which was followed up with a double to brother Sam Gunn (of Condobolin) to take the team to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first chukka.
City got themselves onto the board right after the break thanks to Paul Trickett but Country again countered.
A number of shots went astray of the goals and the score remained 4-1 to Country at the end of the second chukka.
Country scored again upon returning to the paddock for the third period before Mark Barber sent a shot sailing through the goal for city to bring them to within three. However, Country started the final chukka the fastest and local Scott Kennedy Green well and truly sealed the deal with a final score of 6-2.
In the day’s first match local teams Elders Insurance went up against Gooree Wines for the Parklands Resort Challeng Cup and featured players from Mudgee, Gulgong and Dunedoo.
Elders took the trophy home after a 4-2 victory.
In addition to the local talent the event also attracted players from across the state including Australian represtative Andrew Williams from Forbes, who is also the junior Australian polo coach as well.
Mr Bateman added that the support for the event was an encouraging sign for the rejuvenated Mudgee Polo Club, which held their first tournament in over 50 years back in May of this year.
“We’ve got quite a number new players that have joined, so the clubs only getting stronger and stronger, which is very exciting for the town, because there’s a lot of local support” he said.
The final game was followed up by presentations, live music, barbecues and a bar on field for attendees to stay on and make the most of the long weekend.
