“It’s one of the most important celebrations in the region so it’s crucial our residents take the time to make nominations,” Cr Kennedy said.
“There are 12 categories which acknowledge locals who make great contributions.
“I know there are plenty of deserving recipients and I look forward to seeing their achievements in the nominations,” Mayor Kennedy said.
Cr Kennedy encouraged all community members to nominate a worthy recipient.
“Australia Day awards provide recognition to the people who are working hard behind the scenes, often without much thanks or any glory,” he said.
“We want to make sure we take the opportunity to show the quiet achievers that they are appreciated but we can only do that if someone nominates them.
“It’s not hard and it doesn’t take long. Just go to the council website, any library or council office and spend a few minutes filling in the form.
“It’s the only way to make sure the people who invest in our community for the benefit of our residents are properly thanked.”
Lifelong Rylstone volunteer Robyn Oakes was named the Mid-Western Region’s 2015 Citizen of the Year.
Over 30 years Mrs Oakes has given her time to more than 15 Rylstone and Kandos community groups and events.
“I’d just like to promote volunteering and people to get out [and give it a go],” Mrs Oakes told this year's ceremony.
“If you want a good community, you need to get in and make it a good place.
“It needs for everyone to pull together and make it better.”
Australia Day nominations must now be received by Friday, December 4.
