It was good to see Trina Karstrom's letter in Monday's Guardian.

Yes, Roger Mathews will be missed - Greatly missed by his many friends.
Although Roger lived alone he was known by a wide circle of friends, of whom I was one.
Yes, Roger was “offbeat”, but with rare qualities - known to the folk musicians here in Gulgong, where he often performed on his flute and sang.
He also painted, and did ceramics
He was indeed a kind, and likeable man, and yes, he was a good worker, and loved working, though approaching pension age was finding it increasingly difficult to find jobs.
I have 20 or 30 CDs he has made for me, and despite his idiosyncrasies many happy memories of playing music together.
He was a unique and wonderful conversationist, from politics to art - yes he could often times be “difficult” but his high spirits and talents made him the best of company.
Why did he take his own life? We don't really know what tipped him over the edge, but I for one will certainly miss him.
A tribute for Roger was held at the Centennial Hotel Gulgong, where many spoke of Roger, with poems, songs and memories. There will be a wake and it will be publicised.
