Ryan, who was part of the Australian dressage team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, was one of 90 competitors from all over NSW taking part at Jumping In The Vines.
Ryan was impressed with the facilities at the Tym family’s property, Shawwood.
“It’s such a great and friendly club with a beautiful backdrop and well presented and catered for,” Ryan said.
“We’ll definitely load the truck again next year.”
With competitions ranging from beginners to the 1.3 metre fences, the event attracted riders of a wide range of skill and experience, from riders as young as six to professional and semi-professional competitors.
Jumping in the Vines is now in its fifth year and continues to go from strength to strength.
Cudgegong Jump Club secretary Petrina Hughes said the timing of the event allowed riders to “blow off the cobwebs” after the Christmas break and begin to prepare for the show season.
“A lot of people like to have a good hit out here before the [competition] year starts,” she said.
Around 390 rounds were ridden on two rings during the two days of competition.
“It’s a great opportunity for young competitors to see adult riders, including some professional people,” Hughes said.
The Cudgegong Jump Club has built up its facilities at Shawwood over recent years, and sponsorship from HarborSat ISP and Andrew and Kate Whale of Havilah North Merinos allowed the club to increase prizemoney at this year’s event.
“Over the years, we have worked with the Tym family, who have put a lot into developing the equestrian facilities here,” Hughes said.
As well as visiting riders, Mudgee and Wellington were well represented in the competition.
