Oliver Sievers and Bella Keenan competed against an extremely strong and experienced field and were placed second in the Lyrical Duo section at Nationals, after achieving a Platinum Gold status at Regionals held at Newcastle in August last year.
The duo danced a piece titled ‘Unrequited Love’, choreographed by former local dancer and choreographer, Kurt Williams, now a member of Transit Dance Company in Melbourne.
The adjudicators reported ‘great partnering work’ and emphasised the potential that both dancers displayed.
They also commented on the brilliant choreography and sent congratulations to the dancers’ teachers.
At regionals, amongst many placings and accolades Oliver was awarded the Shining Star Award, as well as being given 4th Regional Champion Overall for his jazz solo routine, 4th in his Lyrical solo and placing 3rd in his Contemporary solo.
At Nationals, Oliver was able to place 3rd in the Elite Jazz section with a piece choreographed for him by Ryan Smith, as well as qualifying as a ‘Dancer of the Year’ finalist with a contemporary piece choreographed for him by acclaimed Australian dance teacher and choreographer, Adam Blanch, and being selected to dance in the opening of ‘The Battle of the Stars’ with a group jazz routine.
“It was a fantastic experience and one that I will never forget,” said Oliver.
He said it was great to have the opportunity to compete against the best dancers in Australia and to gain an insight into the standard of dance nationwide.
Both dancers would like to thank their teachers for their training and guidance, as well as their parents for their love and support towards their passion.
Oliver and Bella train under the guidance of Tanya Keenan at local dance studio, Dance Unlimited.
Ms Keenan said she was “extremely proud of the hard work and dedication shown by these two dancers” and thrilled that their efforts were being rewarded.
Dance Unlimited is currently taking enrolments for 2016, with all boys and girl from 2 years and older welcome. Phone Tanya Keenan on 0417 269 413 or visit the studio at 1A Industrial Avenue for further information.
