Home Decor fell short of the target set for them by Carpet Court by 34 runs in the clash of the household teams on Saturday.
A number of solid contributions with the bat by the Carpet Court team combined to a total of 192 for their opposition to chase and while there weren’t any huge totals it all added up.
The opening partnership of Lawson and Forrest got things going with a combined 47 runs before the former was dismissed for 27.
Forrest followed soon after for 18 with the score unchanged and the side was looking slightly rattled when number-three O’Connell was gone for three.
However Mitchell Sandry and Josh Sandry steadied the ship to get the total over 100 before they were split, Josh the first to go for 22.
Mitchell Sandry would go on to be his side’s top scorer with 44 when he was run out, a further combined 62 runs from the lower order giving Home Decor something to chase.
The pick of their bowlers was Steve McKenzie whose 4/14 was the major concern for the batting side, and it was him who cleaned up the top three batsmen.
Wright took 1/13, but fellow wicket takers Roach (1/32) and Matt McKenzie (1/44) were expensive in putting the batters back in the club house.
Decor’s chase started badly with their top four dismissed for a combined 28.
Number five Garry Page gave the team their highlight of the innings by making 50 runs and dutifully retiring.
Matt McKenzie was their next best with 32 before being caught out, but the final three Decor batsmen to take the crease turned in a combined 32.
In the end they ran out of overs and finished at 158.
Nine players had a bowl for Carpet Court, of those Ross McKewon had the best looking figures of 2/10.
Cody Lawson also claimed two scalps of his own for 23 runs, while Justin McCarney (1/16) and Adam O’Connell (1/18) were the side’s other wicket takers.
