Mid-Western Regional Youth Council has a full schedule of events planned for Youth Week, including rock wall climbing at the PCYC, bubble soccer, a movie night, a trivia night and a 3D printing workshop at Mudgee Library.
The Youth Council will partner with Mudgee Underground to hold an exhibition in the Stables on Market Street, Mudgee, featuring visual art, photography and writing.
Last year’s exhibition included ceramics, photography, drawings, paintings and mixed media work, ranging from pop art cartoons to landscape scenes.
This year, the writing section will be built around a flash fiction competition, encouraging young writers to tell a complete story or create a moment in 50 to 500 words.
In coming months, Mudgee Underground intends to work with schools and the local library to help young writers take on the flash fiction challenge, and give them an opportunity to display their work and have it read by a broad audience.
The Mudgee Guardian will publish a selection of young writers’ flash fiction pieces from the exhibition.
First, second and third prizes for writing, photography and visual arts will be decided by popular vote during the exhibition, with winners receiving vouchers worth up to $100.
