Gravel sections of the Wollar Road have seen “significant improvement”, according to road users after Mid-Western Regional Council approved the use of a water cart by a nearby quarry that transports rock via the road.
In an address to council in March, affected residents said a large number of B-double movements on the unsealed section of road was impacting on the health and well-being of residents, safety of road users and condition of the road surface.
Among them, Bylong man Graham Tanner said he had resorted to wearing swimming goggles to protect his eyes from the dust, he said sits in the valley.
Earlier this month council gave approval to the quarry to use a water cart on the Wollar and Ulan-Wollar Road to reduce dust and maintain the surface while its trucks are using the road.
Additionally council said it completed two-and-a-half kilometres of gravel re-sheeting on the road in February.
Council added that current conditions make it very difficult to perform effective maintenance, however it is planning to complete more re-sheeting and grading of Wollar Road this financial year.
Council will be undertaking a $14 million upgrade of the Wollar Road in the next few years.
