As some one who has grown up in Mudgee then settled elsewhere, it is always interesting to visit the family and see the changes, some good, some not so much but my attitude is- I don't live here, it's not my place to say something.
However, I can not bite my tongue in what I witnessed yesterday, the one day that everyone is asked to simply show respect!
I am aware the cafés on Market Street were legally allowed to be open but so was the General Store on Lewis and Horatio Streets. He didn't- out of respect.
Not only were the cafés open and footpaths cluttered with tables and chairs so the pedestrians following the March were knocking into them, the patrons remained seated with their back to the parade, eating their bacon and eggs. Surely they could have at least stood as the main contingent containing current and ex service personnel passed. Surely service for the measly 20 minutes, tops, it took for the whole parade to pass could have ceased.
Surely these businesses could at least take that small time to say thank you to those that have given more than most could imagine to give those same café owners and disrespectful patrons, including the lady who couldn't wait for her coffee during the service, the opportunity to enjoy those same luxuries! Surely council has some responsibility to encourage these businesses to not be so darn rude! Shame on these businesses, patrons and the council for allowing it- one morning out of your lives won't kill you! A huge bravo to past and current Mudgee RSL organisers for putting on such a wonderful show of gratitude and a big BZ to 816 Squadron for turning out to support it.
Further to this display of disrespect, I now read some one pinched the Invited VIP's uniform hat!
Are you kidding?
It has no monetary value to the thief nor does it have any sentimental value to the person/s that stole it. It does however cost a guest invited on Mudgee's behalf, to our town, for our benefit. a fair bit to replace (as part of his uniform he HAS to have it) and it would hold an immense value sentimentally due to the hard work put in to earn the right to wear it. Time away from his family.
Time and personal sacrifice for our benefit! Mudgee please keep an eye out for it. They just want it back. This is just another slur on OUR town's name!
