Mudgee Veteran golfers enjoyed one of their largest fields on Tuesday, May 17, with 60 players taking to the beautifully manicured Mudgee Golf Course, in excellent condition following the recent Men’s Club Championships.

Thirty-five local players and visitors from Wentworth, Duntryleague, and Forster-Tuncurry joined the large contingents from Henbury and Gulgong to contest the Ewan Burgman Trophy.

Rod Wilson won the trophy with 38 points in a close countback with Bruce Bell.

Rod’s back nine was the better, courtesy of the birdie on the 13th and 21 points.

Bruce played his better game on the front nine with 21 points.

Another countback was required to separate third and fourth places, with David Halpin and Neva Cavenagh playing the course to their handicap with 36 points.

This time the women missed out and David took the top spot.

The ball pool went down to most scores of 30 points or better.

Nearest the Pin winners on the fourth, 11th and 17th holes were Bob Campbell, Tass Stathopoulos and Douglas Galloway.

The next programmed Vets Open will be held on Tuesday, June 7.
