Two Foreign Nationals have been charged after highway patrol officers located a large amount of prohibited drugs in their possession near Coonabarabran.

About 11.50am yesterday (Wednesday, May 25), officers attached to Coonabarabran Highway Patrol stopped a Mitsubishi Magna on the Newell Highway, two kilometres south of Coonabarabran.
Police found cause to search the vehicle, allegedly locating a large quantity of drugs including cocaine, cannabis and MDMA.
The driver, a 27-year-old man from Belgium, and the passenger, a 26-year-old man from France, were both arrested and taken to Coonabarabran Police Station.
They were both charged with supply large prohibited drugs – indictable quantity. The 27-year-old French man was also found to be an unlawful resident.
They were refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Thursday, May 26).
The incident has prompted Commander of Traffic and Highway Patrol, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley to warn motorists of the consequences of using the road to undertake unlawful activities.
“If you think you are going to get away with illegal activity on our roads, you can think again," he said.
“The CATCH program targets vehicles suspected of transporting drugs and other illegal contraband.
“Police are out in force, and if you are doing the wrong thing, we will catch up with you.”
