Front counter staff wore their best and brightest beanies to raise funds for brain cancer research through the Mark Hughes Foundation.
Cassandra McDonald said there were many reasons why staff took on the fundraising task, one of them being Carrie Bickmore’s speech at the Logies last year.
“I was watching that up late and I was balling, that was a beautiful beautiful speech she made and just fantastic that she used that platform to raise awareness about that,” Cassandra said.
She said an advertisement for the Mark Hughes Foundation cemented the idea.
“It’s a little known foundation and not a little known disease but there’s not much being done for brain cancer at all,” she said.
“It’s something like five per cent of funding is being allocated for brain cancer but it’s the biggest killer of people under 40 years old when it comes to cancers.
“It kind of tugged at the heart strings a little bit and we like to jump on things that aren’t quite as well known.
“And the girls love it they love getting involved with this sort of thing they throw all their energy into it and wear funny outfits.”
All money from the week’s tip collection and the sale of cupcakes on Friday will go directly to the Mark Hughes Foundation.
