The current Government halted the National Broadband Network (NBN) to introduce a mixture of platforms, the worst of all being Fibre to the Node (those green boxes everywhere).
Sadly Australia has a missed opportunity for a "future proofed" technology with yet another Liberal "idea" primarily because it is cheaper at present.
This form of Internet will likely be obsolete about the time it is completed (years later than forecast "by 2016" and for billions of dollars more than projected by the Turnbull administration).
Ultimately Fibre will need to be installed to correct the waste of this decision. Rural residents are now connecting to "Sky Muster" which is another part of the NBN planned by Labor's PM Rudd and Communications Minister Conroy; The current Government has not had any part in provisioning this service other than it was too late to cancel it when they came to power in 2013; It is solely a construct of a future thinking Government which was PM Rudd and PM Gillard.
Similarly today we must be concerned that the Liberal Government (if re-elected) will disadvantage Rural Australia with more cuts to health by altering Medicare. As a fact of history Labor PM Whitlam legislated Medibank (our first health safety net) and Liberal PM Fraser repealed it, only to have it legislated again as Medicare by Labor PM Hawke.
This tells me that for many Australians (like me; On a very low income with family commitments) that a vote for the Liberal and National Parties (LNP) will make life harder, more costly and disconnected with their third rate Internet "idea" and more cuts to Health and Education. None of this is new; In whatever tier of Government is controlled by the LNP, it is as PM Rudd said "the little guy" that will take the strain in the majority to benefit the minority. "Near enough is good enough" is how Rural Australia is treated by the LNP and it is time they became part of history by electing a Shorten Government for a fairer Australia on July 2 – 2016.
