However the latest cuts to funding for direct resident care have me and many others concerned.
Therefore I would like to invite the Minister for Health and Ageing Sussan Ley or any other politician to come and work in a residential aged care facility for one week and then meet with;
1. The staff that correlate the Assessments for the Aged Care Funding Instrument ( ACFI) which pays for the staff to care for that resident and explain to us how we are "frauding "the government with inaccurate claims and "rorting "the government of millions of dollars.
2. Meet with the Board of Directors, CEO and Finance Managers and explain how the proposed cuts of $1.2 billion over four years are going to affect the way we care for our residents.
3. Meet with staff and explain how these cuts will affect the hours that they work, and their livelihood's. Because with these cuts staff hours and shifts may be reduced.
4. Last but certainly not least meet with the residents and their families and explain the cuts and how it may affect their care, we may not be able to employ RNs 24/7 and residents may have to go to hospital if they require care that will need RN input, reduced staff on the floor, may mean that the have to wait a little longer for staff to answer the buzzer.
I invite you to come and experience what staff do for our most vulnerable and sometimes forgotten citizens, they are all someone's parent, grandparent, spouse or sibling and deserve only the best of care, and yet the government with these cuts appears to be forgetting our elderly, and making them a easy target because they don't always have a voice.
We would welcome any politician who would like to come as see what actually happens in an aged care facility, not rely on someone to give them a general overview.
Oh , the morning shift commences at 0600hrs if you would like to join us.
