An initiative of Wilpinjong Coal’s environment and community manager, Kieren Bennetts and counterpart Graham Chase from Moolarben, the Coal Mines Cup will be won by the mine which achieves the highest aggregate kilometres run by employees, their families and the mines’ contractors at the running festival.
Each mine will register participants to compete in any of the events - marathon, half marathon, 10 kilometre run or the 5.4 kilometre fun run/walk and participants’ kilometres will be added together for the final tally.
Each of the three mines will contribute $500 which will be donated to a local charity or organisation chosen by the mine with the highest points generated by their runners. The winning mine will be awarded the Coal Mine Cup as a perpetual trophy in anticipation of the event becoming an annual competition.
