Mudgee’s Glen Willow Sporting Complex has been the venue for the NSW PSSA Primary Rugby Union State Carnival, which brought together 13 teams from across NSW to town for three days of the event.

The local facilities and town in general also earned high commendation from the organisers of the tournament as well.
The carnival was the state final and the culmination of all of the NSW PSSA trials with the aim of selecting the NSW PSSA (New South Wales Primary Schools Sports Association) Rugby Union Team for 2016.
It was hosted by Polding (Catholic School Sports) who brought the event to Mudgee.
The Polding team, who finished sixth overall, was also a side that featured local representation from St Matthew’s Catholic School students Thomas Andronicus and Bede Smeallie as well as teacher Ross McKeown who was team manager.

Other local players in action were Flynn O’Brien and William Guilfoyle from Rylstone Public School who played for Western Region.
Carnival manager Pam Burke said the event was the “pinnacle of school sport” was complimentary of the way that Mudgee accommodated it.
“We’ve been blown away by the whole town, not only by the facilities which are incredible, but all of Mudgee has been so welcoming,” she said.
“And the support we’ve had from the Mudgee Wombats and Mid-Western Regional Council has been excellent as well.”
Players were 11-12 years old.
The teams playing were; CIS (Combined Independent Schools), Hunter, MacKillop, North Coast, North West, Polding, Riverina, South Coast, Sydney East, Sydney North, Sydney South West, Sydney West, and Western.
The carnival began on Tuesday and by the end on Thursday afternoon over 30 matches had been played.
