The students raise money all through their final year of schooling - as a lesson in giving back to the community - but Rainbow Day is the single biggest fundraising occasion on the calendar.
This year's beneficiaries are the Mudgee District Hospital Operating Theatre and Ambulance NSW.
The students voted on two causes to support, under the respective criterias of the local community and the other of the wider community.
The day will begin with the three Rainbow Day “donation stations” where the colourfully-dressed students will be asking passing motorists to dig deep.
The stations – perhaps the biggest earners of the biggest earning day - will once again be located at; the Ulan/Cassilis Road near Lawson Park, Church Street near the tennis courts, and Market Street near the mini-mart.
The students will then host the Rainbow Day fete back at the school featuring a range of carnival-style games and activities and food stalls for the Year 6 students of Mudgee Public and Cudgegong Valley public schools.
At the lunchtime break the fete is then opened up to the MHS students before the day wraps up with the Year 12 concert where the year group show off their extra-curricular abilities.
As previously mentioned the year group’s fundraising is already well underway with a number of activities within the school and at its events getting things started.
Last Friday Year 12 students went around the school grounds with collection buckets accepting donations and in exchange a number of them switched clothes with the opposite genders and added shower caps for a humourous fashion statement [pictured above].
They’ve also run food and drink stalls – including pancakes, cupcakes and milkshakes – throughout the year, along with a whole host of activities such as guessing competitions to keep adding to the kitty.
At the Mudgee High swimming and athletics carnivals they held the business house relays, as well as running the barbecues.
Their fundraising will continue when students will be collecting at the local A Day On The Green concert later in the year, as well as an auction night in October when sporting memorabilia and other items will go under the hammer.
