Fourteen-year-old Kandos High School student Teleisha Besant has battled the odds to win two silver medals at the Combined High Schools State Athletics Championships.

The medals were for the 14 yrs discuss and the 14 yrs shot put – both achieved with her mother Megan her only coach and no local discus net for training. Teleisha says she and her mum learnt a lot from watching others perform.
“We watched different people practicing and started to get a better idea of how I needed to move.”
They also travelled to Mudgee on weekends to experience net training. It certainly paid off with Teleisha not only gaining medals but also achieving her personal best in shot put. These two medals now make Teleisha’s tally five silver medals at state athletics in the past three years.
The future Teleisha’s say “I’m still trying for gold. That would be nice,”.
