Pilot lands in Mudgee winery paddock

A light plane has made a safe but unplanned landing in a paddock near Blue Wren Winery near Mudgee.

The plane was reportedly preparing to land at the nearby Mudgee airport at around 4pm when it was forced to change course to avoid another plane on the runway.

Eight-year-old Xavier Gould said he heard a sound and looked up to see the low-flying plane bank and land in the empty paddock next to the winery.

Staff of the winery praised the pilot’s skill in avoid the winery and a nearby house.

“At the end of the day, everyone at Blue Wren is happy that everyone is safe,” Paul Mallett of Blue Wren said.

A tractor was used to pull the plane free of the boggy paddock.
