The Mudgee Region Farm-Gate Trail and Marketing Strategy was officially launched on Thursday at Karrabool Olives, one of the producers which are part of the trail.
Thanks to the efforts of Ingrid Roth of Roth Family Orchard, Mudgee Fine Food (MFF) received a $23,000 grant from the Murray Darling Basin Regional Economic Diversification Program to develop the project.
“After a lot of planning and hard work, Ingrid's idea has been brought to life by Mudgee Fine Foods and a committee of passionate producers and supporters of the project”,” MFF president John Grant said.
“The main aim of the project is to allow our region’s fine producers to showcase their produce to locals and tourists alike.
“We want Mudgee to be recognised not just for it's spectacular wine production, but also for its growing and diverse produce which is considered to be of the very highest quality.”
Producers taking part in the inaugural Farm Gate Trail include cherry and pomegranate orchards, olive groves, hazelnuts and meat producers - lamb, organic beef and small goods.
“Of course we also have honey and cheese and figs as well as desert limes, chillies and preserves and many products made from these delicious ingredients,” Mr Grant said.
'We already know that many locals and visitors to Mudgee love getting their fresh and local produce from the Farmers Markets and we believe that this is just a natural extension from that offering.
“Now everyone can not only get their goods from the markets, and the fresh produce supporting cafes and food outlets, but they can also take a trip to the actual farm where their produce comes from - meet the farmer, taste the food and take a piece of Mudgee home with them.”
The Mudgee Farm Gate Trail brochure and map will be available from the Mudgee Farmers Markets or online at the Mudgee Fine Foods website.
