New highway patrol cars
The Local Chifley Area Command has received one of 28 new Highway Patrol vehicles rolled out in NSW in a bid to crack down on dangerous drivers and help towards achieving a zero road toll.
The new high visibility vehicles are being deployed to key crash hotspots on major routes and highways across the state.
Of the 28 new vehicles, 14 have already been delivered and are on the road in Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Armidale, Tweed, Dubbo, Byron Bay, Grafton, the Hunter, Nowra, Goulburn, Gundagai, Albury and Lismore.
The remaining 14 vehicles will be delivered progressively by next year.
The new Highway Patrol fleet will include seven brand new 4WD vehicles which will be used further afield on regional roads, where standard highway patrol vehicles cannot go.
Sadly, we are seeing an increase in fatal crashes right across the state, but in particular, on regional roads.
To address this spike, many of the new vehicles will be rolled out in the bush, particularly on highways leading in and out of Sydney.
Drivers who continue to disobey the law while families are torn apart by loss of life on the road will have no excuse when they are caught – irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated on NSW roads.
Heritage Funding
This week I have announced almost $40,000 in heritage grants to assist in the preservation and protection of key heritage sites and items throughout the Bathurst Electorate. Bathurst, Blayney, Oberon and Lithgow
Councils will all receive funding that will assist communities protect, value and gather more information about their local heritage.
The funding will also assist council’s to implement their own grants programs and to secure the services of heritage advisors.
Service NSW Bathurst extends hours
New operating hours will see the Service NSW Centre in Bathurst extend operating hours on Saturdays until 12.30pm from October 1.
Providing access to over 900 transactions from more than 40 government agencies, Service NSW is contantly reviewing the demand for services and adjusting hours where required to meet current and furutre needs. This is great news for Bathurst residents giving you a little more time on the weekends to get those important jobs done.
Fish Facts on the Go
The latest fishing news and information is now at our fingertips with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) ‘Fishsmart NSW’ app available to download.
The new app provides fishers with a range of data including bag and size limits, fishing safety and useful guides for reporting illegal fishing in NSW.
With some fantastic waterways in the electorate and NSW, we want to ensure people are best equipped to enjoy this fantastic recreational activity.
The app also includes weather, tides, moon phases, barometric pressure and other key fishing data, as well as regional fishing rules and a pictorial guide to identify NSW fish species.
Long Weekend / School Holidays
With the kids on a break from school, and a long weekend, this period is one that sees an increased number of vehicles on our roads. Please be aware of speed limits, driving conditions and ensure adequate stops and rests are taken.
Much of our region has been inundated with flood waters of late so it’s also a timely reminder not to cross or enter floodwaters. For emergency help in floods and storms, phone the SES on 132500.
