Cr Russell Holden has proposed the forum to bring together high school captains, Youth Council members, Max Potential program participants and other interested young people to discuss issues such as youth activities, education and employment and strategies for retaining youth.
“There has been much discussion over many years over the lack of facilities for youth and the retention rates of our youth after leaving High School,” Cr Holden said in a notice of motion. “This motion seeks to capture the opinions of those most affected by these concerns and use this information to establish a long-term youth strategy.”
Cr Holden said suggestions from the strategy could be costed and included in future budgets and Council could purse recommendations not under its control through economic development, supporting businesses or community liaison.
