Closer to our region, we read about the passing of the King of Thailand. The recently departed monarch was much loved by his people and left big shoes to fill. Many are now fearful for the future without him. There have already been a few articles about the next-in-line to the throne and we do not doubt some of those reports would have raised a few eyebrows.

On our very own doorstep, we have some new leaders serving on council. Anyone who has sat in on a council meeting will know that it is a tough job. There are many challenges, the budget is limited, and there are so many people to please! Sadly, it is just not possible to make everyone happy sometimes. God knows they try their best!

Now, this may come as a surprise to many, but the Bible is not just about who should be allowed to get married (or not as the case may be). The Good Book actually covers other topics and for almost 2000 years has been considered a reliable guide for many other life matters, like say, leadership. 

Jesus himself taught that those who would lead must have the heart of a servant (Matthew 20:25-28, Mark 10:42-45, Luke 22:24-27). Humility and putting others before self are two qualities that seem to rate highly. Followers of Jesus should of course look to him as the example of what a perfect leader should be like. The apostle Paul reminds us that despite being the creator of all things, Jesus came down to earth as a servant, and was obedient even though it lead to his death. 

Our leaders generally do their best to serve the community. We should remember to pray for them (1 Timothy 2:1-2) and be grateful for their work and sacrifices.
