Despite an overall wet weekend – one which saw a number of sports washed out on the Saturday - the weather did not affect the day with perfect playing conditions.
Overall it was great to see such a strong field and have so many participants, particularly all of the junior players.
- Nathan Wilkins
There were no surprises during the pool matches with the number one seeds from each pool progressing to the semifinals.
Arguably the game of the day came when Peter Robinson and Carolyn Smith took on eventual winners Nathan Wilkins and Sheridan Simmons where Robinson and Smith took the champs to a third set and being ahead 5-3 in the third.
Wilkins and Simmons made a comeback and won that in the end 6-2, 1-6, 7-5.
The score of the Championship Final did not reflect the quality of tennis with Nathan Wilkins and Sheridan Simmons defeating Anna MacDonald and Angus MacDonald 6-1, 6-1.
After the game Nathan Wilkins, the club’s head coach said the standard of tennis was impressive.
"Overall it was great to see such a strong field and have so many participants, particularly all of the junior players, most of which I coach," Wilkins said.
"I'm glad the body held up too, I was a bit nervous about the shoulder.
“Thanks to my partner Sheridan, she was great today."
