By law, dogs and cats must be registered from six months of age and microchipped from 12 weeks of age or before being sold, given away or released from the pound.
Council’s Ranger, Chris Burns strongly encourages all pet owners to microchip and register their cats and dogs.
“Not only is it a legal obligation of pet owners to have their dogs and cats microchipped and registered, there are also important community benefits,” Mr Burns said.
“Microchipping and registration assists a missing pet to be reunited with its’ owner if it is lost, and also helps Council Rangers to manage stray or dangerous animals in the community.”
A second Free Microchipping Day will be held in Mudgee at Robertson Park, 3 December from 9am to 12pm.
All cats must be in a carry cage and dogs on a leash.
