Remember how storks used to deliver babies in old cartoons? Surely, few children have ever believed this legend – which was exploited with special brilliance in the Disney classic Dumbo – but it has come in handy over the years for parents keen to avoid talking about sex.

The notion is revived in the frenetic, largely unworkable Storks, an all-ages computer-animated comedy devised by the prolific Nicholas Stoller, known for more adult entertainments such as Bad Neighbours 2.
You may be wondering: Where do the storks get these babies in the first place? In Stoller's vision, they come shooting out of chutes at a steampunk baby factory, which suggests both a pinball machine and a fairground ride.
In the film's present day, however, the storks have long since given up on babies – which can, after all, be obtained from other sources – and reinvented themselves as a parcel service in the manner of Amazon.
But when the factory whirs to life once more, the go-getting hero, Junior (Andy Samberg), is launched on an unexpected mission, accompanied by his sassy yet accident-prone human sidekick Tulip (Katie Crown) who still yearns to find her real family.
