Organisers of Saturday’s Toy Run have delivered toys and around $6500 in donations to the charities, to be distributed to residents in need.
Carol Jones of St Vincent de Paul Mudgee and Kate Cormie of Barnardos said many people are struggling to meet the costs of living, including rent and food and family expenses.
“The Toy Run is a godsend,” Mrs Jones said. “It is just amazing”.
Mrs Cormie said while program funding covers basic needs, donations given to the Toy Run are the “cream on top”.
“This allows us to be a little generous and think outside the square,” she said.
Cash donations given to the Toy Run will be used to buy gift vouchers.
Donations given to the Toy Run include three bikes from “Mutha” an organiser of the first Toy Run. The Federal Hotel has offered Christmas hampers and Mudgee Lions have donated Lions Christmas cakes to St Vinnies.
Some businesses and community groups are supporting Barnardos by having employees or members buy presents for Club Mudgee’s “Giving Tree” instead of exchanging “Secret Santa” gifts. To donate, visit Club Mudgee and take a tag from the tree, and return a present appropriate for the gender and age written on the tag.
